It may seem odd to suggest a dictionary is a fun read, but the Dictionary of Cape Breton English (DCBE) by academics William J. Davey and Richard MacKinnon is just such a book. Islanders – whether they live on Cape Breton, PEI, Newfoundland, Ireland or elsewhere – have a strong local dialect, which seems so much more colourful than that. The northern part of Cape Breton is home to the Cape Breton Highlands National Park which makes up part of the world famous, Cabot Trail. What these mountains may lack in height, they certainly make up for in splendid beauty. Along the western part of the park the highlands rise straight up from the ocean to a height of ft (m).

Cape Breton Island’s story is told in many ways. It’s etched in her craggy cliffs. Written in the trails that marble her face. Spoken in three languages and celebrated in her music and dance. Alive in the millennia’s old history of Unama’ki—Cape Breton Island’s true name, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. The book is pages in total, contains pages of genealogical material on the LeJeune & Youngs and their descendents that returned to Cape Breton and Newfoundland after the deportation, lots of old pictures, some birth or marriage licenses, tree charts and great read.

North Uist also had its massive emigration to Cape Breton, beginning rather later than the South Uist moves, and a Presbyterian community was built up in the south west of the island, especially around, Gabarus, Catalone and the Mira, with an off-shoot around Loch Lomond, in . Cape Breton humour, Crow is a story of big personalities, big twists, and big hearts. amy Spurway was born and raised on Cape Breton island, and lives in dartmouth. “depicts a side of Cape Breton populated by characters that are flawed and achingly real. it’s poignant and funny.”—leSley CReWe GooSe lane editionS pages • $ NEWFile Size: 3MB.

As its industries flourish, its commerce must increase. Cape Breton has, in these stirring times, begun a new warfare. It is not to. Cape Breton is a small island in Nova Scotia, Canada.

It doesn't have as much as it used to, but at one time it had its moments. It was in the 20th century very industrial, home to a huge steel mill and coal mines, as well as a hazardous waste site called the Sydney Tar Ponds.

Having lost several hours last week browsing the online archive of Cape Breton’s Magazine, I was pleased to hear from Ron Caplan, the founder of that publication, about his latest venture. Caplan’s Breton Books has (with the help of Canada ) created an eBook called Great Cape Breton Storytelling and, for the month of April, the press is giving it away free to Cape Bretoners (and.I said it at work and I will say it here.

If ya accept us you are one of us. What does that mean: If you can enjoy the island and the people - If you can accept the pace, the lifestyle, the people, and the wages - If you start every conversation with the weather because you know we have it in common - If you stop to let someone cross the street because you would hate to hear about them.

Cape Breton Road by D.R. MacDonald is the story of a young man with a good heart but a penchant for taking risks like "borrowing" fancy cars. Banished from the US to live with his uncle in Canada, he picks a spot high up in the hills to secretly cultivate marijuana, a cash crop "guaranteed" to buy his independence/5(10).
